U16s at last secure some league points

This report is short due to work constants.

It seems such a long time since we chalked our last league points - 29/11/09. It not been that we have been unable to win its just with two outstanding runs in the cup competitions that we have played hardly any league games.

I was confident of a win on Sunday. We played Mildenhall in our previous match and lost 3-2 and if we are honest we gifted them all 3 goals. We know we should have won then and thats why I was confident of a win.

The game and performance was not perfect but as they say" a win is a win". It could have so different, we once again started slow and gifted Mildenhall an early lead with a unchallenged bouncing ball that seemed to just be out of reach to us all.

We ended their early lead and confidence with some great build up play which resulted in Will beating the kepper once more to draw things level. It was our first attempt to do this and for approx 20 minutes we smashed everything we had towards the goal with no reward. Mildenhall were starting to feel the pressure.

We broke at half time 1 - 1, and I still didnt believe we were truely awake.

We started the second better, the ball started to move around and we started to dominate the space. When we pass we can beat anyone and it showed today, the strings of two and three pass left Mildenhall standing. even with the passing appearing we just could not get ahead. We smashed everything and cleared the bar half a dozen times. If we had a goal for every cheered miss we would have been 6 up by now.

Even with the fancy football we just could n't get a goal. It took a simple tap in to get us ahead, Alexe was clear and on his own when the ball found him and the simpliest of calmly taken touches got us ahead. 2 -1. The excitment didnt end with us pressuring their goal on a 5 minute time table, 2 or 3 missed chance, 3 goal mouth scrambles and Tom throwing his whole body at a cross got the crowd going again as we tried in vain to increase the scoreline. It wasnt to happen and the game finished 2 - 1.

Man of the Match today goes to James. He was asked to play Centre Back a position that he hates. He done it with complaint, performed at ease and at times saved us some advancing attacking runs. James well done. Special mentions should go out to the rest of the defenders who played their part. Sam who after returned from injury jumped straight back in the goal. Our goal scorers Will and Alex. Luke, Jason and Nathan in the centre of the park. Connie, who played in 3 different. And the rest of the lads who should not be forgotten.

Slowly we are moving back up the league, 4th places this week but it is tight with 4 teams fighting for 3rd position.  We played the semi-final next weekend and will no doubt once again move down the league table. It is all still to play for with 4 league games left, 12 points available and we need all 12. Come on lads lets end on a high.

4th in the league, Semi-Final in the cup........U16s still living the dream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
